Donation for 2-year-old Abigail who has a stage III germ cell malignant tumour in her anus.

2-year-old Abigail Ni Sui Chin diagnosed as having cancer and her parents were devastated.

Abigail's father Duh Bok and mother Van Par Doi seeking help from public for his medical fee

Her father Duh Bok and mother Van Par Doi were foreigners of the Chin State in Myanmar. The Myanmar military government has been repeatedly enforced the assimilation policy in Chin State, leading to military conflicts and affecting social peace.

This has also led to refugees leaving their homes to survive. Duh Bok only met his wife when they fled to Malaysia and became asylum-seekers of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. They gave birth to Abigail and lived here for 7 years.

They thought they could live happily ever after, until Abigail has a stage III germ cell cancer. The couple cannot rely on anyone to help them.

Duh Bok and Van Par Doi took their child to Hospital Kuala Lumpur for treatments.

According to the medical report on 1st June 2021, the doctor explained that the child’s anus had a malignant tumour with a size of 5.7cm x 4.5cm x 5.7cm. Since HKL did not have a suitable treatment, she was referred to HUKM for examinations on 14th June 2021.

The CT scan report showed that she had a stage III germ cell tumour (GCT). This tumour, caused by birth defects of the embryo during its development can be malignant or benign and usually occurs in the gonads (Ovaries or Testes).

Based on the report, her total treatment cost is about RM40,000, which includes 4 sessions of chemotherapies (Each Costs RM2,000), blood tests (RM5,000), MRI scans (RM8,000), tumour removal operation (RM15,000) and an intravenous catheter used in surgery (RM3,000).

We spoke to Dr. Loh, Abigail’s attending doctor over the phone and learnt that she can achieve a recovery rate of 70% to 80% after chemotherapies and surgery. Should Abigail forgo or delay her treatment, the cancer cells will spread and become stage IV germ cell cancer.

The doctor recommended that she should start her chemotherapy session two weeks later or the tumour will grow and affect her large intestine and bladder, putting her life in jeopardy.

Our social workers visited them in Cheras and learnt that Abigail’s sitting posture was abnormal, a condition caused by her stage III germ cell tumour.

The doctor stressed that the child needed immediate treatments, but the couple cannot afford the expensive cost. To rub salt into the wound, the pandemic has affected Duh Bok’s income; He now earns a monthly salary of RM1,000 and this income cannot sustain the living expenses of the entire family (Including a monthly rental or RM325). They do not have any family members in Malaysia that could lend a hand either.

Duh Bok and his wife have entrusted us to crowdfund and collect funds for Abigail. A total of RM40,000 is needed.

We urge everyone to donate and help Abigail so that she would not miss the best treatment timing. Please share this news to your friends and family. Thank you.
